Today we visited the new Violapark, which only opened on September 17, 2026. It is located in the 10th district right next to the Generali Arena (Austria Vienna). We wanted to find out if it’s worth a visit, even if you don’t live right around the corner.

At Violapark, the urban development project is not only creating the “Laa Viola” residential complex, but also a modern neighborhood featuring around 800 apartments, a senior residence, school and kindergarten facilities, and local shops. The approximately 6,200 m² park serves as a green oasis while providing a practical pedestrian connection between Erich-Sokol-Gasse and Laaer-Berg-Straße. In addition, 57 climate-resilient trees, over 1,000 shrubs, and a spacious wildflower meadow were planted to boost biodiversity.

Getting There

Getting there is easy using public transport, for example with bus lines 65A/65B or line 15A (combined with a short walk). The U1 subway station “Altes Landgut” is also within walking distance.

The park is located right next to the Kinderfreunde Kindergarten Violapark and opposite the popular Laaer Wald recreational area.

Crocus Blossom Climbing Frame

The absolute centerpiece of the roughly 500 m² play area is an impressive climbing frame in the shape of a pink crocus blossom. The design reflects the park’s botanical theme: matching the crocus shape, 500 m² of lawn were planted with spring-flowering bulbs alongside a 1,400 m² wildflower meadow. While the real flowers provide food for bees and insects in spring, the giant crocus blossom invites children to climb, balance, and explore all year round. The climbing structure is complemented by slides, swings, and a roundabout carousel.

Water Play Area

On hot summer days, a water play area featuring a fountain and integrated water course is meant to provide a refreshing cool-down.

Unfortunately, the hydrant was out of order during our visit, so we couldn’t test the water stream in action.

Additional Playgrounds

Heading toward the “Laa Viola” development, there is another play area with a wooden pirate ship, swings, and cozy seating areas. However, this section was temporarily fenced off during our visit due to maintenance work.

Our Verdict

We absolutely loved the climbing frame at Violapark! It is beautifully designed like a flower blossom and offers real climbing challenges even for older kids.

If you’re spending time in Favoriten, you should definitely check out this new park. Combined with the nearby Laaer Wald recreational area and Kurpark Oberlaa, the quality of living and leisure in the area has been noticeably enhanced. We’d love to come back to try out all the climbing routes!
